Just. Eat. Real. Food.

Here is a partial showing of my haul from Walmart/Whole Foods on Monday. I don’t normally shop at Walmart (for food) but I was borrowing my friend’s car and needed to pick up some other things and it was a super center sooo I went for it.

Holy crow, I wished I could shop there all the time. Avocados were 88 cents. I pay $1 an avocado at Trader Joe’s and they’re $2 for one at Whole Foods. Shopping for avocados on the east coast makes me miss California.

Anyway, my haul included 1# of ground lamb, 2# of ground beef, a 4# chicken, 3# pork roast, lots of veggies, sweet potatoes, spices, an acorn squash, 3 dozen eggs and sparkling water, among other things.

The bulk of my groceries this week came from Walmart where I paid about $72. I picked up a couple things at Trader Joe’s on Sunday and then some special stuff (Tessemae’s Zesty Ranch, lamb, and coconut flakes) at Whole Foods which came out to around $60.

So total was around $130 which is expensive for one week of groceries but I bought a lot of canned stuff (since I had a car) and those 3 bottles of Tessemae’s alone were $16. So not everything I bought will be consumed this week.

I would reckon that I’m eating for about $100/week which is around $3-$4/meal a day (depending on whether I snack or not). I find that totally reasonable. I give myself a pretty large food budget to incentivize buying food and cooking it.
